Our Values and Social Responsibility
We are committed to promoting responsible research and innovation practices in step with NERC and its parent body United Kingdom Research and Innovation (UKRI). NCEO staff are expected to be responsible and accountable.
We participate in a cross-NERC centres forum on consistent research ethics. Our objectives in research and professional work is to be accurate and to act with integrity.
We encourage our staff to adopt NCEO core values by being respectful, inclusive and collaborative in approach across traditional boundaries, fostering personal and professional growth. We are baselining our organisation through whole staff surveys and best practices. We maintain a living action plan which is monitored and promoted through our EDI Working Group and EDI Champion.
NCEO supports NERC in achieving net zero by 2040. Our chief net zero considerations are travel, fieldwork and computing. We use online, hybrid/optimised meetings where possible; we encourage efficient travel; we support net-zero aware laboratory and computing initiatives. Further information can be found in our Environmental Sustainability Policy.
